Asia Netcom

Asia Netcom evolved from the creation of the submarine telecommunications cable system to connect countries in Asia, the Pacific, and the United States known as EAC (East Asia Crossing) through the joint ventures of Global Crossing, Microsoft and Softbank. The dotcom crash in 2002 forced the venture to sell its assets to a consortium led by China Netcom, Newbridge Capital and Softbank Asia Infrastructure Fund which led to the creation of Asia Netcom. At this point, Asia Netcom Corporation Limited provides the submarine telecommunications cable system services to global data and voice communications for telecommunication carriers in the particular countries that provide telco services to their respective markets. Asia Netcom served as the communications link across Asia Pacific region and the US for which it was awarded the Frost & Sullivan’s ‘Data Communications Service Provider. Having control of these strategic assets, the company offered a broad range of data connectivity and communications as well as IP-based solutions in the Asia Pacific region.

In 2008, the whole of Asia Netcom was acquired by China Netcom, which it later sold to Connect Holdings Limited, another private investor conglomerate comprised of Ashmore Investment Management Limited, Spinnaker Capital Limited and Clearwater Capital Partners. The acquisition resulted to the merger of f Asia Netcom and Pacific Internet and the company was renamed as Pacnet. Asia Netcom’s cable system was then fused with submarine cable system of Connect Holdings creating the EAC-C2C.

Headquartered in Singapore and Hong Kong with offices across Asia including the Philippines, Pacnet became the leading international telecom and Internet provider in the Asia Pacific region that allows multinational companies to connect to Asia in revolutionary ways that sophisticatedly connect gaps between national, cultural, and technological obstacles that characteristically undermine business growth and dissipate valuable resources. The company offers a flexible organization and infrastructure that provides the precise combination of Asian communications connectivity with consistency and effectiveness. In the Philippines, the Pacnet office provides a complete range of advanced IP, data, voice connectivity and management solutions to allow the Philippines to connect to the world.
