Inbound and outbound sales are common among call center agents. Although not all campaigns requires this, some of them like telecommunications, sales quota is actually one of the performance metrics that every agent needs to meet. Let’s face it – not everyone is born with sales skills. There are some, or maybe a lot, whose marketing skills just suck. Are you one of them? Then this article is for you.

So how are you going to hit that sales quota and bring home as much commission as you can? Here are some tips.

Building rapport. Building a close customer relationship in just a few minutes might seem difficult, especially if you are speaking with someone that does not even want to cooperate. Building rapport can make your customers comfortable with you, and eventually you can lead them into buying your products. A simple “how the day’s going so far” might give you the sale of the day.

Create the customer’s need for your products. If you are a customer, of course you would not purchase something that you don’t need. Therefore, you need to come up with a situation for your customer where in you would show the customer that the product you are offering him or her, is needed. Once that you have proven that your product has a lot of advantages, then your customers would certainly ask for more.

Listen to your customer’s unstated needs. There are times when a customer calls in because of an issue which can only be addressed or resolved by purchasing your product. Those customers who are calling about overages and complaints about additional charges incurred because of the usage of a service that is not included in their monthly service plan can mean a sale for you. So listen intently to each and every concern of your customer.

Resolve your customers concern. This is actually a given tip, because of course, it is the main purpose of your job – to resolve customer’s issues. However, that does not mean the customer would not be gratified and buys the product you offer in exchange of a job well done.

Sales quota seems hard to achieve at first, especially if you do not have any experience when it comes to marketing. However, with the right attitude, there is a bigger chance that you could bag this seemingly hard to achieve metric.
